শ্রীলঙ্কার বিপক্ষে বড় পরাজয়ের পর, বাংলাদেশ দলের সুপার ফোরে খেলা অনিশ্চিত ছিল। সুপার ফোরের আশা বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে আজকে অবশ্যই জিততে হত। পাশাপাশি, সুবিধাজনক অবস্থানে থাকার জন্য রানরেট টা এগিয়ে নেয়ার প্রয়োজন ছিল। ম্যাচ শুরুর আগে, আফগানরা নিজেদের পরিস্কার ফেভারিট দাবি করছিল। বাস্তবতা সেটাও তাদের পক্ষে ছিল। সর্বশেষ আয়োজিত ওডিআই সিরিজে বাংলাদেশের মাটিতে বাংলাদেশকে ২-১ ব্যবধানে হারিয়েছিল আফগানরা। আজকের ম্যাচ নিয়ে তাদের যে আশা ছিল সেই আশায় গুঁড়েবালি পড়ল বাংলাদেশের বড় ব্যবধানে জয়ের মাধ্যমে।

তিনটি পরিবর্তন নিয়ে টস জিতে ব্যাটিংয়ে নিমেছিল বাংলাদেশ। ব্যাটিং উইকেটের সুবিধা নিয়ে বাংলাদেশ তাদের ব্যাটিং ইনিংস শেষ করেন ৩৩৪ রানে ৫ উইকেট হারিয়ে। টপ অর্ডারের ব্যর্থতায়, তিন পরিবর্তনের মাধ্যমে নাঈমের সাথে ওপেনিংয়ে পাঠানো হয় মেহেদী হাসান মিরাজকে। সুযোগ পেয়ে যেটা ভালভাবেই কাজে লাগিয়েছেন তিনি। রিটায়ার্ড হার্ডে যাওয়ার আগে করেছেন ১১৯ বলে ১১২ রান। ওপেনিংয়ে যোগ্য সঙ্গ দেয়া নাঈম ২৮ রানে ফেরার সময় বাংলাদেশের দলীয় স্কোর ছিল ৬০ রান। তাওহীদ হৃদয় ব্যাটিং প্রমোশন পেয়ে ৩ নম্বর পজিশনে আসলেও কোন রান না করেই ফিরে যান। ৬৩ রানে ২ উইকেট হারানো বাংলাদেশকে ম্যাচে সিটিং পজিশনে বসান নাজমুল হাসান শান্ত এবং মিরাজ।

মেহেদী মিরাজের ১১২ এবং রান আউট হওয়ার আগে শান্তর ১০৪ রানের ইনিংস খেলেন। শেষের দিকে মুশফিকের ১৫ বলে ২৫ এবং সাকিবের ১৮ বলে ৩২ রানেই বড় সংগ্রহ পায় বাংলাদেশ। জবাবে, শুরুতেই গুরবাজকে হারিয়ে বিপদে পড়ে আফগানরা। শরীফুলের বলে এলবি ডব্লিউ হয়ে ১ রান করে ফেরেন গুরবাজ। গুরবাজ আউটের পর রানের চাকা ধীর গতিতে চলছিল। তবে, এক প্রান্ত আগলে রেখে বাংলাদেশকে চোখ রাঙ্গাছিল ইব্রাহিম জাদরান। হাসান মাহমুদের বলে আউটের আগে ৭৪ বলে ৭৫ রানের ইনিংস খেলেন তিনি। ক্যাপ্টেন হাসমতউল্লাহ শাহিদীর ৬০ বলে ৫১ এবং রশিদ খানের ১৫ বলে ২৪ রানের উপর ভর করে পরাজয়ের ব্যবধান কমান আফগানরা। ৪৪ ওভার ৩ বলে অল আউট হওয়ার আগে আফগানরা করতে পারে ২৪৫ রান।

বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে তাসকিন ৪৪ রান দিয়ে ৪ টি এবং শরিফুল ৩৬ রান দিয়ে নেন ৩ টি উইকেট। এই পরাজয়ের মাধ্যমে আফগানদের সেমিফাইনালের পথ কঠিন হয়ে গেল। বড় ব্যবধানে হারের ফলে শ্রীলঙ্কার বিপক্ষে বিশাল ব্যবধানে জিততে হবে আফগানদের। আর, আফগানরা যদি সেটা করতে পারে, তাহলে শ্রীলঙ্কার রান রেট গিয়ে ঠেকতে পারে বাংলাদেশের নিচে। তাই, বাংলাদেশের শেষ চার মোটামুটি নিশ্চিত ধরে নেয়া যায়। ১ ম্যাচ খেলে ১ ম্যাচ জেতা শ্রীলঙ্কা এবং বাংলাদেশের সাথে বড় ব্যবধানে হারা আফগানরা আগামী ৫ সেপ্টেম্বর খেলবে। সেই ম্যাচে নির্ধারিত হবে কারা যাবে সুপার ফোরে। তবে, কাগজে কলমে অনেক হিসেব নিকাশ থাকলেও বাংলাদেশের শেষ চারে খেলা খুব একটা কষ্টসাধ্য নাও হতে পারে।
