নিউজিল্যান্ডের সাথে ২য় ওডিআইতে বাংলাদেশকে পরাজিত হতে হল ৮৬ রানে। টস জিতে আগে ব্যাট করে ২৫৪ রান করে নিউজিল্যান্ড। ৩৬ রানে ৩ উইকেট হারানো নিউজিল্যান্ড ম্যাচে ফেরে হেনরি নিকোলাস এবং টম ব্লান্ডেলের ব্যাটে। দুজনের ৯৫ রানের পার্টনারশিপে মিরপুরের উইকেটে ভাল সংগ্রহ পায় নিউজিল্যান্ড। হেনরি নিকোলাস ব্যক্তিগত ৪৯ রান করে ১৩১ রানে চতুর্থ ব্যাটসম্যান হিসেবে আউট হয়। মাঝে ১৮৭ রানে ৭ উইকেট হারিয়েছেল নিউজিল্যান্ড।

তবে, শেষের দিকে ইশ সোধীর ৩৫, কাইল জ্যামিসনের ২০, এবং লুকি ফার্গুসনের ১৩ রান করেন। যা নিউজিল্যান্ডকে ২৫৫ রানের চ্যালেঞ্জিং টার্গেট দিতে সাহায্যে করে। জবাবে, ধারাবাহিক ব্যর্থ লিটন দাস ৬ রানে ১৯ রান করে ফেরেন। লিটনের ফেরার পর সিনিয়র এবং জুনিয়র তামিম বাংলাদেশকে জয়ের স্বপ্ন দেখান।

তবে, বাংলাদেশ ঘোর বিপদে পড়ে তানজিদ তামিম ১৬ রান করে দলীয় ৬০ রানে ফিরলে। ৬০ রানে ২ উইকেট হারানো বাংলাদেশ একটা সময় গিয়ে ৭০ রানে ৪ উইকেট হারায়। এরপর মাহমুদুল্লাহ এবং তামিম চেষ্টা করলেও, শেষ রক্ষা হয়নি। শেষ পর্যন্ত বাংলাদেশকে থামতে হয়েছে ১৬৮ রানে। ফলে, বাংলাদেশকে মাঠ ছাড়তে হয়েছ ৮৬ রানের পরাজয় নিয়ে।

বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে বড় ক্ষতিটা করেছেন ইশ সোধী। করেছেন ক্যারিয়ারের সেরা বোলিং ইনিংস। ১০ ওভার বোলিং করে ৩৯ রান দিয়ে নিয়েছেন ৬ উইকেট। বাংলাদেশ মূলত ম্যাচ হেরে গেছে, ইশ সোধীর বোলিং স্পেলেই। তার স্পিনের সামনে দাঁড়াতেই পারেনি বাংলাদেশ।

বাংলাদেশের বিপক্ষে এই জয়ের মাধ্যমে, সিরিজে ১-০ তে এগিয়ে গেল নিউজিল্যান্ড। প্রথম ম্যাচ বৃষ্টির কারনে পরিত্যক্ত হয়েছিল। ফলে, আগামী ২৬ তারিখ হতে চলা ম্যাচটি হবে নিউজ্যিান্ডের সিরিজ জয়ের তথা বাংলাদেশের সমতায় ফেরার। আজকের ম্যাচ হারায়, বাংলাদেশর সামনে আর সিরিজ জেতার কোন সুযোগই থাকল না।

নিউজিল্যান্ডের ২য় সারির দলের সাথে মিরপুরের কন্ডিশন, সব কিছুই ছিল বাংলাদেশের ফেভারে। তবে, তা কাজে লাগাতে পারল না বাংলাদেশ। তবে, বাংলাদেশ হারলেও প্রাপ্তি, তামিম ইকবাল এবঙ মাহমুদুল্লাহ রিয়াদের রানে ফেরা। বাংলাদেশের হয়ে সর্বোচ্চ ৪৯ রান আসে রিয়াদের ব্যাট থেকে। আর, ২য় সর্বোচ্চ ইনিংসটি তামিম ইকবালের ৪৪ রানের। এই ইনিংসের মাধ্যমে রিয়াদ, বিশ্বকাপ দলে ফেরার দাবি রাখল। বিশ্বকাপের আগে ২৬ তারিখ শেষ ম্যাচ জিতে, কিছুটা আত্নবিশ্বাস নিয়ে বিশ্বকাপের প্লেন ধরার চেষ্টা করবে বাংলাদেশ।

বিশ্বকাপে, আগামী ৭ অক্টেবর নিজেদের প্রথম ম্যাচে আফগানিস্তানের মোকাবিলা করবে বাংলাদেশ। এবারের বিশ্বকাপে অংশগ্রহনকারী ১০ দলের সবাই একে অপরের মোকাবেলা করবে। ফলে, প্রথম রাউন্ডে সব দলই ৯ টি করে ম্যাচ পাবে।
